At work the last week or so, I’ve had nothing to do. Seriously, nothing. I get to work, check my official email, then check my personal emails. I read all the articles of interest from CNN. Then I read all the articles of interest from Google News and Yahoo News. Then I read through my google reader. Rinse, repeat. Work-appropriate blog and website suggestions are more than welcome. (One of these days, things will pick up and I will be able to do work at work! I can’t wait!)
In the meantime, I have found a variety of fascinating shit over the course of a week, some of which is below. I also have way too much time to think, but that’s for another post, as are the results of my google search for “how to break up with someone after 5 dates.”

You know that feeling of anticipation when you’re waiting for someone to show up at your house and you keep going outside to see if they’re there yet? Iktsuarpok (Inuit) is the word for it.
Then, apparently this company Mars-One is intending to send people to space in 2023 to start a new colony. They won’t return. It’s basically a suicide mission. And get this – they’re going to pick who goes via reality show, and then have reality tv big-brother style while they acclimate to one another and predicted conditions in some desert location.
Another random thing…A biologist recently theorized that we get pruny fingers because it helps us grip slippery things when wet. A more widely-known theory is that fingers wrinkle because they absorb water. Read more here.
Potentially surprisingly, Barack Obama is the smallest government spender since Eisenhower. Thing is, the 2009 budget was set by Bush. The 2009 budget was responsible for a 17.9% increase in federal spending. There’s a handy chart here that goes into more depth. It makes you feel a bit for all the crap Obama gets about spending. To clarify – the stimulus was still attributed to Obama, no worries.
Other random crap…It’s more effective if you drink a cup of coffee AND take a 15 minute nap immediately. You can better eavesdrop with your right ear and pick out music with your left. There’s a new drink by the makers of FourLoco that tastes like water, but is alcoholic…because society really needs easier ways to be hung up on booze. And lastly, look at this neat furniture that’s made with rope!
